What’s next for University Neighborhood Partners?
Just a year after celebrating its 15th anniversary, UNP has unveiled a new long-range plan. The plan lays out four priority areas where the organization will focus its efforts in the coming years. This new plan is an affirmation of UNP’s mission and a recognition of the many successes of the past one-and-a-half decades. It is also a call for UNP and its partners to deepen their work, broaden their impact, and improve their ability to tell their stories to the world. UNP’s plan is designed to support the broader University of Utah strategies while at the same time solidifying its commitment to partnering with west side Salt Lake City neighborhoods.
“So many people contributed to this planning process. It has given us a plan that will truly lead to change because it is built on the strengths and vision of everyone involved.”
— Sarah Munro, UNP Director
The plan was created in true UNP fashion: it began with listening. Staff and partners conducted interviews and focus groups with over 200 people from west side neighborhoods, the University, and local organizations and institutions. They also dug into research on UNP’s history, impact, and changing context. A planning committee led this process with support from Kilo Zamora, consultant and long-time partner. Working groups from the UNP Advisory Board, which is made up of representatives from all of the department’s stakeholder groups, used this rich information to begin drafting possible goals and strategies. Board and staff members went through multiple rounds of reflection and revision.
The plan is available as a text document, and in graphic format. Staff and partners are now working to translate these high-level strategies into concrete action plans. UNP recognizes that this plan is a living document, and will evolve over time, in response to an ever-changing world.
